The teaching of Jodo Shu holds that by simply chanting "Namu Amida Butsu" — the name of the Buddha — you will surely be welcomed into the Pure Land of Perfect Bliss. There are no rigorous austerities or special conditions required.

Simply chanting the name of the Buddha and connecting with Amida Buddha — this is the one and only path to birth in the Pure Land. This teaching of universal salvation, a way for all people to be saved, was opened by Honen Shonin.

浄土宗の教えは、「南無阿弥陀仏」と仏の名をとなえれば必ず極楽浄土へお迎えいただけるという教えです
そこに厳しい修行や特別な条件はありません。

ただ仏の名をとなえ、阿弥陀仏とつながること――それが浄土へ往き生まれるただ一つの道です。
この万人救済の教えは、広く人々が救われる道として、法然上人によって開かれました。
